Animal Shelter Scam Investigative Report – August 1, 2025

Donation Scam

A deceptive Facebook ad campaign under the name “Jenny & James Animal Shelter” is targeting
animal lovers with emotional appeals for donations. But this investigation reveals that the campaign is
likely a scam — tied not to a real shelter, but to a small oncology clinic in Brazil.

Key Findings:

  • The domain jenny-james-shelter.org was registered on July 29, 2025.
  • The website has no history, no nonprofit credentials, and hides its registration details.
  • The listed address in Ajo, Arizona is a small residential home and is misrepresented.
  • Meta’s own ad transparency listing confirms the beneficiary and payer is a Brazilian medical
business: AMPARO ONCOLOGIA SERVIÇOS MÉDICOS LTDA.
    Business Details of the Advertiser:
  • CNPJ: 58.528.531/0001-31
  • Registered Name: Amparo Oncologia Serviços Médicos LTDA
  • Opened: December 20, 2024 | Capital: R$5,000
  • Address: Rua Catalão 171, Fundossala 3, Sumaré, São Paulo, Brazil
  • Email: antoniocmlf@gmail.com | Phone: +55 11 97252-9171
Why This Matters: This campaign demonstrates how easy it is for fraudulent organizations to
manipulate Facebook’s ad system to harvest donations. Despite red flags, Meta is still running these
    ads without adequate oversight.
    How to Protect Yourself:
  • Avoid donating through ads from unknown shelters.
  • Always verify nonprofits on sites like GuideStar, Charity Navigator, or the IRS Tax Exempt Search.
  • Report suspicious ads directly through Facebook’s reporting tools.

Conclusion: The Jenny & James campaign shows multiple hallmarks of an international scam
operation. The evidence is clear: a newly registered website, a fake U.S. address, and a Brazilian
oncology clinic acting as the sponsor. This is a misuse of trust, platforms, and generosity.

■ Appendix A: Fake Shelter Address Discrepancy
The Jenny & James Animal Shelter website lists its address as:
1221 W Feed Rd, Ajo, Arizona
However, this address does not exist. The actual road name is:
1221 W Fees Rd, Ajo, AZ 85321
This is a small, single-family residential home — not a commercial shelter or rescue facility.
There is no signage, kennel, fencing, or evidence of any active animal operation at that address.
■ Google Maps Verification: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nvhS9qPKybqJdaAW6
This appears to be an intentional misspelling to avoid easy detection, while lending the appearance of
a U.S.-based operation.

Update: Following the reporting of the findings of this investigation, Facebook appears to have
acted swiftly to remove the ‘Jenny & James Animal Shelter’ ad campaign from its platform, however
the website is still active as of this posting. August 20: The website has been taken down.
